Bastion: E3 2011

Bastion is an action rpg with a fantastic art style and interesting story for XBLA. It is developed by Supergiant Games and it is their first title. This is a indie game that I was dying to get my hands on at E3. You have a preset character that wakes up in his bed after something terrible has happened to the world he knows. You travel back through the world trying to rebuild and restore it. In the demo I got to face off against various forms of enemies. There are genies which move quickly and strike hard, they are higher scale enemies in the beginning, and the lower scale enemies are little blobs that tend to swarm you in numbers. You acquire a hammer, a bow, a shield and a type of quick firing ranged weapon.

The combat in this game isn't complicated, but it doesn't need to be. There is depth, but we didn't get much into it in our demo, just one ability and a look at crafting. I'm not sure how the game will open up or if it will stay a linear storyline like our demo. Once again, the art and graphics are amazing for a indie game. The world falls in around you as you reach new destinations in a very impressive and pleasing way. The storyline is really enjoyable, even though I only saw about 10 minutes of it, and the deep voiced narrator adds a memorable feel to the story.

This could be one of those great little indie games that steals the spotlight from some big name titles. It has already been gaining a lot of popularity and E3 only made it even more popular so things are looking up for them. It will be coming out sometime this summer on XBLA. I hope we will be getting some more hands on time with this title in the future.
