Kano wasn't always such a bad guy.... As a matter of fact, his story has a quite humble beginning. Before his rise to power as the leader of the Black Dragon criminal empire, Kano was a simple janitor. But he wasn't just any janitor, he was the best in the Outback. There wasn't a single stain that could escape his mop. He'd travel the land, hunting for things to clean. Soon word of his precision reached the Black Dragon. They had need for a new janitor, as the old one had been shot for not properly cleaning the torture chamber. Kano accepted the offer and quickly rose to the top of the organization. With Kano as their new cleaner, nothing could stand in their way. But even with their squeaky-clean new top man, the Black Dragon's actions did not go unnoticed. The U.S. Special Forces set up a sting operation to infiltrate their headquarters and apprehend their leader... But it all went horribly wrong.
While undercover as members of the Black Dragon, Sonya Blade's partner tracked mud into Kano's office. This set Kano into a fit of rage. Nobody stains floors around here except him! He hurled a knife at the man's throat and then proceeded to scold him for making a mess while he was bleeding to death on the floor. "But it's okay..." said Kano. "I can clean that floor, mate." Thus began Kano and Sonya's rivalry and the beginning of the first Mortal Kombat. It is no accident that Shang Tsung recruited Kano for the tournament. He knew that there would be blood.... Lots and lots of blood. And he also knew that Shao Kahn would not tolerate bloodstains all over his kingdom. Cleanliness is Godliness as they say, and that was what he aimed to become. So since Kano was just as good at cleaning up stains as he was causing them, he was the perfect man for the job. He's been cleaning those floors ever since. So next time you wonder where all of that blood disappeared to so fast, you know who to thank. No Charge!!!
