Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Update
Chivalry just had a update on one of their new maps and a few ingame combat screenshots, both of which are exciting considering that not much has been shown of maps or combat yet. You may recall that we did an overview of Chivalry, talking about it for the first time on our website, last week. We will also being doing another article of sorts on Chivalry later this week or this weekend. The map introduced is called Stonehill and it looks to be a european style valley with a castle at it's end. The castle also looks to be designed after european medieval architecture, but with a bit of Venetian or Italian influence with the arched domes that are normally associated with religious buildings.

Inside the Castle
With this update they are also showing off the crossbow and shields for the first time. Just like the rest of their screenshots, these ones look fantastic and gorgeous, showing a level of detail that is worth salivating over, but only if it meshes with some fantastic gameplay and a smooth engine. They just have screenshots now, but they are working on getting some gameplay footage together of the crossbow and shield in action. If you want to some basic combat head over to the overview, which I also hot linked earlier, to see various alpha gameplay videos. Also, with the new maps, they are attempting to make the maps feel persistant. So they will start out clean, untouched, as if you are part of the first wave of invasion or assault, but as the game drags on then you will notice that the map seems scarred by battle. Most importantly, after a match has been going on for a long time, they want it to feel and look as if a war has taken place across the map.

(notice the new weapons, previously only a single sword was shown)

Crossbow, Shield and Double Bladed Axe on Display
That's it for this update, nothing huge, but still cool nonetheless. The more I see the more I like how this game is looking, but I can't wait to see how they handle wide scale melee and ranged medieval combat. Something else to look forward to is how they plan to handle objectives this time around, especially to see how dynamic they will be. Thanks for reading, check out the MERP update next and enjoy these last couple screenshots from the Chivalry update. Keep sending the updates Torn Banner Studios.
