Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes PC Impressions

I have extensively played and beaten this game in it's original form, on the Nintendo DS, and it was a great game. With the PC version they have thoroughly changed, and improved in my opinion, the art, menu's and animations. They have also added a campaign map with a bunch of new features that seem user friendly. Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes doesn't seem like a port, it seem's like they took to heart many of the complaints from the DS version and crafted something new.It would be easy to say this is a port of the XBLA and PSN version though, which came out on April 13th, 2011, while the DS version came out in 2009.

Campaign Map
First off, let me briefly describe what this game it is. It is downloadable title, only costing $10 to $15, with a long campaign and a puzzle rpg system. The puzzle system has you matching up units into attack columns or walls, with some complicated features like linking and fusion. Each unit has different statistics and attributes, for instance some units can shoot right through walls without a negative, while others can pierce through multiple units. You can customize your army with all of the units that you gain throughout the campaign. You have three low rank units that only take up one spot and you can have two large units that are unique, powerful and perishable. All of your units gain experience through battle and will level up, increasing their stats, same goes for the hero you are controlling as well. Your hero unit also can find artifacts, which do anything from increasing your hero's life or adding an effect to all of one unit type. All of this balances together really well, making combat addicting, fun and challenging. The puzzle system seems simple at first, but there is quite a lot to it and going for a specific strategy can make or break you. The major drawback of this game is the story and character dialogue. It was bad in the DS and it's still bad now, but the gameplay is so good that it's fairly easy to push past the childish dialogue.

I was going to upload video of the demo, but teo4all2 has it covered

The PC version of Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes is a HD version of the original. It contains the features I previously mentioned, but also multiplayer (an entirely new feature) plus new spells, abilities and artifacts. I didn't care much for the graphical style before in the DS version, but now the environments are much improved in HD, although the character design is still ugly. I kind of wish I hadn't already beaten this, or owned the DS version, because the demo for the PC version has got me really tempted. The game is $14.99 on steam, also available on XBLA and PSN, and it has a DLC for $2.99 that add's more characters to multilplayer. All of this can be found through their main website or steam. If you like puzzle games, with rpg elements, then you will probably like Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, so at least check out the demo. The game just came out for PC, today, September 22nd. Thanks for reading.
