Do any of you remember the SSX games back on the PS2? They were all about snowboarding down crazy unrealistic mountain courses, the series started out simple, but evolved eventually into open mountains that could be explored. I have some very fond memories of the old SSX games and EA Sports has been working on a new SSX for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The new SSX has a large world to conquer with nine distinct locations based off real world mountains, except they use their mountain man tool to generate the mountains while also using NASA topographical data. The courses still look to be pretty wide and open, seemingly creating the non-linear courses that the series is known for. The graphical technology is also fairly impressive, creating realistic looking powder that flows over your snowboard. One of the big features they are toting around for the new SSX has to do with online. They have Ridernet and Global Events, two online features that both encourage a drop in/drop out kind of online mode. The Global Events are described as live events against people in real-time at every drop in the game, allowing you to compete against huge numbers of other players at any given time. The Ridernet is kind of ghost system that tracks your times for online leaderboard purposes, but it also lets you pick your favorite drops/jumps, tells you where your friends are, lets you recommend areas and lets you easily find global events.
They just came out with two pretty interesting SSX developer videos, describing the game while also showing off a bit of gameplay. The focus of these videos is to show off the massive world, so take a look at those two videos below. The game will come out February 14th, 2012, for Xbox 360 and PS3. It looks to be a lot of fun for any fans of the old series and it sure has been a long time since there has been any games that brought back that sense of fun and excitement that the SSX series, among other similar games at the time (Tony Hawk), was known for. Thanks for reading and I will be back with more news later today. Main Website: http://www.ea.com/ssx
