EA Fires Back About 'From Ashes' DLC On Mass Effect 3 Disc

If you were paying attention to the events (our previous article) following the release of Mass Effect 3, you know that there is some controversy behind the DLC content 'From Ashes' which features a Prothean character that joins your squad and at least 5% of game content.  Back in February someone had made the mistake and released the DLC early on XBLA.  This raised some attention because the game had not even been released yet.  This started an online uproar of fans calling foul play on Bioware for having completed content not on the final disc.  A viral video was also released showing that the 'From Ashes' DLC is actually on the Mass Effect 3 disc and can be accessed by changing a line of code.

Since then, Bioware has released multiple statements claiming that the DLC was not ready for the final product and that they would never keep content from the final product.  Either way, EA and Bioware have got themselves in a sticky PR situation.

"From Ashes is a 600 MB+ download with all new content, including the mission on Eden Prime, new dialogue options and conversations with Javik, new cinematics, the Prothean weapon, and new appearances for all squad members.  All of the above content was completed while the main game was in certification and are not available on the disc."

It has been no secret that over the last couple years game developers have been trying to find new ways to make more profit off of their titles.  With seeing no return on the purchase of used games from video game merchants, it seems that gaming companies are trying to find whatever way they can to make that extra money.  With over 3 million copies sold in the first week, it's hard not to since that EA and Bioware are trying to squeeze every penny out of their successful franchise.

I for one do own the game but I have no plans on purchasing the 'From Ashes' DLC.  We want to know what you think.  Leave a comment below.
