Torchlight 2 Beta

It seem's like everyone is gearing up for beta's right now. Guild Wars II is doing their stress test weekends for pre-orders, The Secret World is doing a similar beta for pre-orders and those who sign up for it at Gamespot, and now Torchlight 2 is gearing up to start their beta for anyone who has opted in for the beta on their Runic Games account. Back when PAX East was taking place in April I wrote a general overview for Torchlight II and shared seventeen minutes of gameplay, gameplay that Gamespot put up from PAX East. If you want to read about the game in detail and see why it's worth your attention take a look here, but here is a quick overview. Read on for that overview and a tiny bit of info on the beta.

Torchlight 2 is an action RPG, much like the Diablo series, Titan Quest, Dungeon Siege or the multitude of other well known games of the genre. The first game was very linear and a little generic in design, but it had a lot of content, an attractive graphical style, some innovative ideas and it generally did pretty well. The second game breaks the linear mold of the first game by giving you a fairly open world with many different paths and a ton to explore. The world is also a lot more interesting than the first game. Not only is it huge, but it now contains multiple cities, many different types of environments, a wide variety of enemies and it has a little bit of a dynamic feel to it. There are paths that will change each time you enter a level, much like Diablo 3 if you know anything about that, and they have tried to make it so each time you go into an area it will feel unique. I should also mention that the game has a huge multiplayer component, but it is geared towards co-op not player versus player.

If you want to try out Torchlight 2 before it comes out next month (maybe) on PC and Mac then head on over to the Runic Games website and make yourself a free account. Head here and check it out. They will be giving out keys to anyone who has opted in for the beta on their account. Thanks for reading and good luck getting into the beta.
