Amazon Summer Sale

Every PC gamer out there is writhing around in pain as we all wait for the unannounced Steam Summer Sale, but Amazon is about to show us all that other digital distributors can present some pretty impressive offerings. Starting today, July 1st, Amazon is starting their summer sale and with that we have about twenty-five games on sale for some really low prices. Leading the sale will be Max Payne 3 and Spec Ops: The Line, both of which are very new, Steam activate-able and 50% off. Speaking of Steam, the large majority of the games on this sale are Steam active-able, but I will list them all and let you know exactly which ones are and aren't. Most the games are on sale until around July 14th, but a few of them are only 50% off for a few days. Let me show you the list and give a few short recommendations, plus links to videos if you want to see any of these games in action. Before I go into recommendations, I wanted to let you all know that there will be video game sales on Amazon throughout the entirety of July. They aren't specified yet, but there are already a few games on sale that weren't on the original list provided to NeoGaf. 


Recommendations
Fans of Deep Strategy: Crusader Kings II. 
-Crusader Kings II takes the opposite approach to real time strategy than the beloved Total War series by Creative Assembly. No other game let's you take control of any duke, king or noble in Medieval Europe and gives you so many options with them. This is a game of plots, schemes, politics and war. It has a little bit of a tough learning curve, mainly because there is so much information, but it is a great game. It is one of my favorite strategy games of 2012 and they have been supporting the game with post-release content (DLC) if for some reason you desire more content. Multiple price options, check the Paradox Packs above. 

Fans of Shooters, but wanting something different: Spec Ops The Line
-Like most everyone else out there I always thought Spec Ops The Line was just another generic shooter that was attempting to ride on the heels of Killzone or Call of Duty, but it is instead something unique and worthy of attention. Unlike everything else out there Spec Ops The Line actually has an interesting story that takes a hard look at war and what it means to kill. I've never seen a shooter before that has made so many reviewers feel depressed and impacted by the story. The game is short, about six hours, but it does have multiplayer and there are multiple endings. If you want to see more shooters with a focus on story and the impact of war, then let 2K Games know by picking this one up. Furthermore, don't expect to see this any cheaper than 50% off on Steam or anywhere else, especially since it just came out. 

Fans of Turn Based Strategy: Sid Meiers Civilization IV
-If you've never played Civilization IV, arguably the best Civilization game, then now is just as good a time as any to pick it up for a low price. It is the complete collection and it comes with the expansions: Warlords, Beyond The Sword and Colonization. Fans of the series love Civilization IV for its great balance, lack of bugs, interesting expansions and addicting gameplay. If you've only played Civilization V and you find yourself frustrated by the lackluster AI then give Civ IV a chance, it has much of what you might love from Civ V and contains very few of the negatives.

    1. If they're a game that registers on steam, you can just give that person the steam key instead of using it yourself.
