Mount and Blade Pirates

The Mount & Blade series for PC is one that is hard to get into, especially with its lackluster graphics and tough learning curve, but I'll be damned if they don't offer one of the best sandbox experiences out there. Few other games start you as nothing and let you develop into anything from a brutal mercenary to the leader of your own kingdom. They also tackled medieval politics in an interesting way by giving you so many options when dealing with the many different warring factions around the map, much of which relied on building influence with individuals. The series has brought three games so far, and one DLC, and now the developers who made Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword, Snowbird Game Studios, are cooking up a new Mount & Blade and this one will be all about battling enemy galleons in the Caribbean. It doesn't have a name yet, but I expect I'm sure we can expect it to be pirate or nautical themed.

If you didn't notice, this Mount & Blade isn't made by the original developers, Taleworlds Entertainment, who made Mount & Blade and Warband, which happen to be my favorite games of the series. They are off working on some kind of Mount & Blade 2, but until then we have this pirated themed adventure to look forward to. It will feature:

-Sea battles with intuitive and easy control system
-The real-time boarding fights that throw player in the centre of the action
-Detailed management and customization of both the fleet and the crew
-Complex siege system allowing the players to storm forts, harbors or entire cities
-Different kinds of artillery: shipboard cannons, mortars and howitzers
-Random events system that keeps players question their decisions during their voyage
-True ‘Carribean’ atmosphere of the vast and dangerous world
-Unique NPCs whose design based on the real historical figures
-Various multiplayer modes featuring the sea and land battles, boarding and sieges.

For better or worse this new Mount & Blade will be using the engine from Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword. Expect to see this game releasing really soon, even though it was just announced, sometime in Fall of 2012. I must say that it is a bit interesting that the last two Mount & Blade games are a direct result of popular modifications from the first two game. They had recently released the Napoleonic Wars DLC for Warband after hundreds of people had been playing the Mount & Musket modification and now this seems to be based off the many Mount & Blade pirates mods. At the very least it shows they are watching their community and seeing what they want from a new game. Thanks for checking it out and you can find more about it on the official post over at Snowbird Games.
