Steam Greenlight

Steam Greenlight came out in a full yesterday and now there are over 500 games that the community can vote on. If a game gets enough votes then it will likely be added to Steam, even if it is currently in alpha or beta. There are three games on there I wanted to highlight, for I have talked about them many times here.

First up is Heroes & Generals, which is that upcoming free to play world war II FPS that has a big strategic campaign map and has a lot of promise. My last update here for Heroes and Generals was about one of their new trailers and most recently they have been working on adding new maps to the game, new models, and a singleplayer mission. The game has always been pretty rough and I'm not entirely sure where they are going to go with it, but it could be the closest thing to a modern day world war II online. Check out my video from the early beta to see how it looks, but this one is pretty dated.

Next we have Gnomoria. It is the dwarf fortress like game that gives you a bunch of gnomes, a fairly large map with a lot of depth, vertically, and gives you the tools to try to make an amazing settlement. It is in early alpha and I talked about it extensively back in June, but it does have a lot of promise and it receives weekly updates. Since it is in alpha there isn't a lot of content, but you do have free reign of your gnomes. You have to deal with making military groups to protect your gnomes from invading goblins or powerful golems, while you also can make a mountain side into a great fortress or make a town nestled in a valley. You can do whatever you want with any map and I would love to see this one make it on Steam someday. They have a demo available at their website if you want to try it out, but take a look at this preview video I made for it.

Lastly we have Project Zomboid. The Indie Stone has been making this sandbox zombie survival game for what seems like years and so many things have happened during development, like them getting robbed and losing months of work, which lead to some angry and unnecessary exchanges on the internet. There was also the time that paypal stole much of their money from pre-orders, but other than all that they have been trucking along and the game is still in development.

There are a lot of interesting things that they've done with Project Zomboid, like successfully making zombies react to every sound around the map and making a horde of zombies scary again, plus they already have had people modding and making their own maps. They intend to have co-op at release, whenever that is, but it does and always will have a lot of promise. Here is one of their more recent videos.

Thanks for checking them all out and checking out Steam Greenlights expanding inventory of games to see many other interesting and promising indie games.
